Students Participate in Wycinanki Event

PRLS students participated in a folk art workshop delivered by a local artist, Grace Bazylewski. She taught them the traditional paper cutting technique known as wycinanki. Students made beautiful and colorful wycinanki, and some participants have already used them to decorate their apartments or to give as gifts to family and friends. The event was also a great opportunity to learn about the history of Polish Americans in Chicago--as it turned out, the history of Grace’s family is tightly connected with the history of the Windy City. Her parents, who arrived as displaced persons after WW2, established the Polish scouting and guiding association in the city - known as harcerstwo - that still exists to this day.
